When do we use comparatives and superlatives ? I think action films are more dramatic than cartoons, but they are n’t as exciting as thrillers. The horror film was too long and it wasn’t scary enough. That was the most interesting film I’ve ever seen ! We use comparatives and superlatives to compare different things. There’s one comparative adjective. How many comparatives can you find in the text below ? How many superlatives ? How else does Noah use adjectives to express his opinion ? What films do you like ? My dad loves documentaries, but I think they’re the most boring type of film. They’re usually too long, and they’re not dramatic enough for me. I prefer sci -fi films. They aren’t as scary as horror films, but they’re more exciting than comedies. I love them. Copyright © 2 020 by Pearson Education      Wider World 3 There’s one superlative adjective. Noah also expresses his opinion like this.

How do we make sentences with comparatives and superlatives ? Copyright © 2 020 by Pearson Education      Wider World 3 Comparatives (not) as … as Superlatives too / (not) enough The theatre is more interesting than the cinema. He’s the most popular actor in Hollywood. The screen is too dark. The cinema is not as interesting as the theatre. The film adaptation is as good as the book. To compare two people or things, we use the comparative form + than. The screen is n’t bright enough. It’s the cleanest cinema we’ve been to. The cinema is cheaper than the theatre. We use as … as + adjective to say two people or things are equal, and not as … as + adjective to say they’re not equal. Comparatives and superlatives To compare one person or thing with the rest of a group, we use the superlative form. We usually use the before a superlative. We use too + adjective and not enough + adjective to make a criticism.

Well, I often go to the cinema, and here are my three favourites. Multi-Film and MacroMovie are two typical multiplex cinemas. MacroMovie is 1 _____________________ to the city centre than the other two cinemas, and it has 2 ___________________ screens. They’re huge! But it’s also 3 _____________________ than the other cinemas so I don’t go there so often. The tickets are 4 _____________________ if you ask me. I like Multi-Film because the seats are 5 ________________________ in Macromovie, but the tickets are 6 ___________________. But I often choose Chaplin cinema. Maybe the chairs aren’t 7 ________________________, but I think the quality of sound is 8 _____________ of all the cinemas.
