Слайд 3: 1. Look at the glass of orange juice. Is it half empty or half full?
In your opinion, do you generally think positively or not? Try to give examples to justify your answer.
Слайд 4: 2. Building your confidence
Self-esteem means you really like yourself, both inside and out. It’s important because positive self-esteem gives you the courage to be confident, to be yourself, and not just do what others do, or tell you to do. Believing in yourself means you will have the freedom to be the person that you want to be and make decisions that are right for you.
Слайд 5: 1. Think positively
Think about all the great things about being you. Concentrate on how you feel when you pass an exam at school, or make your friends laugh. Focus on the positive aspects and see the glass as half full, not half empty.
Слайд 6: 2. Remember that perfect doesn’t exist
Everyone has things they would like to improve, even people who seem ‘perfect’. The most important things to focus on are what you’re good at and what you enjoy… and go for it!
Слайд 7: 3. Try new things
Experiment with different activities, for example sports, crafts, or music that will help you to discover your talents.
Слайд 8: 4. Take exercise
It helps to reduce stress and to be healthier and happier.
Слайд 9: 5. Have realistic goals
If there’s something about yourself that you want to improve, go step by step and do it gradually. Be patient. And keep thinking of the progress that you’re making, even if it’s small.
Слайд 10: 6. Celebrate your achievements
Be proud of the things that you are good at and allow family and friends to celebrate the things you are good at, too.
Слайд 11: 7. Relax
Enjoy spending time with the people you care about and doing things that make you feel good.
Слайд 12: 8. Be confident in your own opinion, ideas and feelings
Don’t be afraid to express them. Your friends may put pressure on you to agree with their ideas, but you can make your own decisions.
Слайд 13: 9. Make mistakes
Everyone makes mistakes. You might feel bad if you miss a goal or get an answer wrong, but making mistakes is part of being human. The good news is that mistakes are a valuable part of learning.
Слайд 14: 10. Make a contribution
Help a classmate who is having trouble. Give your parents a hand at home. Making difference to others is great for your self-esteem.
Слайд 15: 2. Does the article say that these things are good or bad?
Liking yourself. _____ Making mistakes. _____ Celebrating when you do things well. _____ Trying to be perfect. _____ Making slow progress. _____

I’m really good at computer games ! Definitely ! I like games that make you think. Sometimes there are moments in a game when it’s really difficult to go up a level. So I’m really proud of myself when I finally manage it. I’m good at thinking of different strategies or solutions. 1 Callum prefers simple, easy games. ___________________ 2 He thinks you need to be clever to do what he does. ___________________

That’s a difficult question. I’m not very good at sports or music. Oh, I’m quite good at listening to people, does that count? I think that’s because I’m a patient person and I don’t interrupt people all the time. My friends come to me when they have problems. Oh, and I’m also a quiet person. Maybe that’s why they trust me. They know I won’t tell everyone their secrets ! 3 Naomi thinks she is good at listening because of her personal characteristics. ___________________ 4 She listens and doesn't tell anyone what she hears. ___________________
Слайд 25: 5b. Rachel – true or false
I’m good at art and I’m good at making things. Art has always been one of my favourite hobbies. I’m really proud of some of my drawings and paintings and my friends like them, too. In fact, some of my friends even ask me to do paintings for them ! I’ve got lots of my own paintings on the walls of my bedroom and it’s a really good feeling looking at them all. 5 Rachel only realised her skill when she was older. ___________________ 6 She doesn't usually show her work to other people. ___________________
Слайд 26: 5b. Toby – true or false
What am I good at? Um, I’m quite good at tennis. Most of my friends at school play football, but I prefer tennis. I started playing with my dad when I was small. He encouraged me to take it seriously because he could see I was good at it. Now I have classes with a tennis coach twice a week and I’m getting better and better. Just playing a sport outside helps me to relax, but I’m quite competitive too and I enjoy playing matches … especially when I win, of course ! 7 Toby's friends play football. ____________________ 8 His dad coaches him and helps him to improve. ____________________
