With all the discussions happening online, it’s inevitable that there are some  disagreements  between people. This is when people deliberately  misinterpret  opinions and provoke arguments for their own enjoyment. It’s also a good habit to regularly  untag  yourself from other people’s photos and posts which you don’t want to be linked to your accounts.

Prepare 6 в презентациях Listen again. Are the sentences true (T), false (F) or not mentioned (NM)? 1 The expert wants to tell the students about the benefits of using social media. 2 You can always control how a post will be shared by using the privacy settings on an app. 3 She thinks it’s a good idea for the students to post news items on social media. 4 The final question you should ask yourself is whether what you are posting is kind and respectful. 5 She encourages students to use similar memory techniques for when they use social media. F T F NM T Lecturer:  Good morning and thanks very much for inviting me to come and speak to your class today. I’ve been working for social media companies for eight years and I’ve seen many changes over that time. Now, there are lots of interesting things I could tell you about how social media has improved our lives. But the reason I’m here today is to talk to you about using social media responsibly. One thing you should definitely do is think very carefully before you post anything online. When you hit the ‘send’ or ‘post’ button, the person who receives or sees your post can do anything they like with it.So don’t rely on the privacy settings of an app. In reality, you can’t control how your post will be used or shared. Anyone can take a photo of their screen and share that with others online. Now, I’m going to suggest five simple questions which you should ask yourself before you post anything online. First of all, is what you’re posting true? Make sure you don’t spread any rumours or fake news! Or perhaps your post is only telling one side of the story? Secondly, is it helpful? Is it helping people get information or understand something better? Next, is your post inspiring? Does it make other people want to do something in a positive way? Is it optimistic? Fourth, is it necessary? Do you really need to post something? And lastly, is it kind? Always try to avoid posting rude or offensive things. Ask yourself: does my post respect other people? Remember that when you post something online, you might never be able to delete it and it may always exist somewhere on the internet … So my golden rule is: if you wouldn’t say something to someone in person, don’t post it online! Now, let’s review all that quickly. The questions I’ve suggested all begin with the first letters of the word  think. T-H-I-N-K: Is your post True, Helpful, Inspiring, Necessary and Kind? This has been a very useful acronym for me over the years and I hope it will also help you to post more responsibly in the future too. Of course, you may want to create your own acronym to help you remember how to use social media responsibly. I’m sure it will be just as good as mine! Now, let’s move on to …
