a) Yes Read the text. Does Rishi have : a) a big sister, b) a big brother, c) parents with jobs in the city ? How would your life be different if you had a different family? If I didn’t have a big sister, I wouldn’t get on well with the girls at my school. But if I had a big brother, maybe we’d do lots of sport together. If my parents didn’t work in the city, we’d live nearer my grandparents. We’d see them more often if it was an easy journey to their house. How do we make the Second Conditional ? Copyright © 2 020 by Pearson Education      Wider World 3 I ’d have to share my room If I had a brother, Use the Second Conditional ( If + Past Simple, would + infinitive) to talk about imaginary situations in the present and future. Note that the if clause can go at the start or the end of the sentence. Notice the difference between First and Second Conditionals. I’ d be very happy if my grandma visited me. (It’s not probable.) I’ ll be very happy if my grandma visits me. (It’s probable.) (= I haven’t got a brother, so I don’t have to share.) I ’d meet you in town If I didn’t have homework to do, (= I have got homework, so I’m not going to meet you.) if I had a brother . . If I were /was taller, I ’d become a model. After I, he, she and it, the form of the verb to be in an if clause can be was or were. Second Conditional
