Nowadays it is close to impossible to imagine our life without phraseology.
The topic was under investigation by a lot of scientists. It was stressed that a phraseological unit is “a block longer than one word, yet functioning as a whole. It is a semantically and structurally integral lexical collocation, partially or completely different from the meaning of its components”.
First of all, we should say that at the present time phraseology plays a very important role in every person’s everyday speech. Moreover, it, without any importance, occupies a significant role in every person’s speech in this world.
Regarding the methodological aspect, we can say that with the help of phraseological expressions it is possible to learn the approaches of the nation to those or other objective aspects of human life. It is important to note that the methodological aspect allows you to learn the nuances of the language and provide a better memorization of foreign vocabulary for students.
Answering the main questions of our research, we can say that we can distinguish the following stylistic functions that are basic during the stylistic usage of various phraseological elements: 1. The function of embellishing speech. As mentioned above, when we use phraseological constructions, they help us to embellish our speech. This is characteristic of absolutely any language, including, of course, the English language. It is in English that phraseological constructions play a much larger and much more significant role in terms of embellishing a situation than in other languages.
2. The function of conveying to the interlocutor all the nuances of one's thought. Most often it happens so that the interlocutor cannot fully understand your idea, what you specifically meant by a word or address. Phraseological phrases allow you to smooth over these misunderstandings between different interlocutors to a greater or lesser extent. In the overwhelming majority of cases phraseological expressions are known to all representatives of the nation representatives of which try to find a common language.
3. The function of reliance on certain cultural universals. It is phrases to a greater extent than other linguistic constructions that preserve a certain cultural code of the nation, which distinguishes it from other nations. This cultural code is transmitted mainly by means of phraseological constructions of various kinds.
To conclude, we believe that it is very necessary to gave both in theoretical and in practical part of this work. We can’t but mention the fact that the role phraseology is considered to be very important. The stylistic usage of this role was examined both from linguistic as well as from historical perspective.
