Infectious diseases are disorders caused by organisms - such as bacteria, viruses, fungi or parasites. Many organisms live in and on our bodies. They're normally harmless or even helpful.

Слайд 3: Scarlet fever

Scarlet fever is a contagious infection that mostly affects young children. It's easily treated with antibiotics. The first signs of scarlet fever can be flu-like symptoms, including a high temperature of 38C or above, a sore throat and swollen neck glands (a large lump on the side of your neck). A rash appears a few days later.

Measles is a highly infectious viral illness that can be very unpleasant and sometimes lead to serious complications. It's now uncommon in the Russia because of the effectiveness of vaccination. Anyone can get measles if they have not been vaccinated or have not had it before, although it's most common in young children. The infection usually clears in around 7 to 10 days.

Слайд 5: Symptoms of measles

The initial symptoms of measles develop around 10 days after you're infected. These can include: - cold-like symptoms, such as a runny nose, sneezing and a cough ; - sore, red eyes that may be sensitive to light a high temperature (fever), which may reach around 40C ; - small greyish -white spots on the inside of the cheeks A few days later, a red-brown blotchy rash will appear. This usually starts on the head or upper neck before spreading outwards to the rest of the body.

Слайд 6: Influenza

Influenza, commonly known as "the flu", is an infectious disease caused by an influenza virus. Symptoms can be mild to severe. The most common symptoms include: high fever, runny nose, sore throat, muscle and joint pain, headache, coughing, and feeling tired. These symptoms typically begin two days after exposure to the virus and most last less than a week. The cough, however, may last for more than two weeks.
